3/2010

Dear readers,

In addition to the new features offered by Release 3.12.3, we also want to continue our short series on using the comprehensive LAGO text editor in the "Focus on" section of this newsletter. In this issue, we will concentrate on how to use the table editor in the text area; the table editor makes it possible to embed complex product tables in text objects.

In addition, in the "Coming soon" section, we will provide the first in-depth look at our new major release, LAGO 4. Of course, the overview of features provides only a very basic look at the new functions. We will be happy to give you a detailed overview of features at any time.

And if you would like to see LAGO 4 live, please visit us at this year's Shop.org's 2010 Annual Summit, Dallas (Gaylord Texan Resort + Convention Center, Grapevine, TX.), from September 27-29. At booth # 1322, we will also show a complete preview of LAGO 4 along with the new mobile functionality.

And now, we hope you'll enjoy reading the "comosoft newsletter".

Coming soon: LAGO 4 LAGO4 - ein Auszug aus den neuen Funktionen

In the following section we want to give you an overview of the innovations in LAGO 4. This list is a preliminary extract, if you wish to know more please contact us and we will happily provide a more detailed list.

>> Completely renewed graphical user interface
The user interface and the icon design in LAGO 4 has been completely reworked. It is now possible to create individual user interfaces and through these control which palettes and functions are available. Via the assignment of user interfaces to user groups it is possible to significantly limit the access to functions and simplify the navigation within the LAGO Software Suite.

>> New LAGO Web Portal with 11 different applications
The user interfaces of all browser based applications have been significantly improved and are consistent with the new design. LAGO 4 provides a total of 11 different program modules which are adapted to the needs of each user role.

       → The modules are:
           • LAGO Asset Manager
           • LAGO Data
           • LAGO Media Planning
           • LAGO Merch Planning
           • LAGO Translator
           • LAGO POS
           • LAGO Proof
           • LAGO Transfer Server
           • LAGO Admin
           • LAGO Layout
           • LAGO Reports

Some of the modules are only available early 2011.

>> Automatic quality check when importing assets
Assets can now be rejected by the asset import if they do not meet the pre-defined quality standards. For each asset type it is possible to define standards for the following parameters
• Color depth (Choose from multiple color depths)
• File format (Choose from multiple file formats)
• Minimum resolution in DPI

>> Enhanced Retail planning functionality
Page layouts and grid fields for the automatic creation of retail pages are fully customizable by the merchandisers or the marketing team within the planning application. The main advantage to this is that the number of page layouts which need to be created can be drastically reduced and the planning process is much more flexible since the merchandiser/planner can create their own page grids and re-use them in different advertising media.

>> LAGO Mobile provides support for M-Commerce
LAGO 4 comes with the tools to allow content to be designed, packaged and then exported to the respective Apps for mobile devices such as the iPad and iPhone. In addition LAGO 4 provides an iPad application framework that can be used to create iPad optimised advertising presentations with integrated multimedia content such as videos, music and slide shows. Instead of a simple PDF import which a large number of iPad applications use, LAGO Mobile supports all graphical user interface elements that are provided within the iOS development platform from Apple.

Button: edit component text The LAGO Explorer contains within the text editor a table editor which can edit text and object tables without the need for layout software. If you choose a component of the type "layout object" or "text box" you're able to load it into the text or table editor by pressing the "edit component text" button.

Button: new table with default size If you're working in the text editor you can create a new table wherever you want with a single click on the "insert a new table with default size" button. Tables will be displayed as {object} inside of the text editor. Your table will be shown as "table#1" in the overview on the left side of the screen and can be edited by selecting this entry.

In the table editor you can now click into the table cells to edit the content in the bottom area. You're also able to use placeholders as well as of free text.

Perhaps you need more product information in your table cells. If so you can drag your information easily via drag'n'drop from an article into the text input of the table editor.

You'll find more information about the text editor in the comosoft newsletter from 05-2010.

Button: set table dimensionsTo fit the dimension of the table click on the "set table dimensions" button. Here you can define the number of columns and rows.

Button: set table propertiesWith a click on the "set table properties" button you're able to edit the properties like table matrix, format or layout. You can also activate the headline or create direct tables based on an existing matrix.

LAGO provides a lot of different standard features to design your table. Columns and rows can be inserted or deleted - new rows will always be inserted above, columns to the left of your current selection. You can combine and split cells or move them with the arrow buttons. To delete the whole cell content use the "delete content" button.

>> Placeholders which no longer have valid content will be removed from copied text components. If a component is copied from one element to another it is possible that the components placeholders contain specific references to the element / article from which it was copied. In future these invalid placeholders will be automatically updated or removed.
Available from 3.12.3. onwards

>> Global Element Workflow. The Global Element workflow provides a workflow where all element variants share the same workflow object and thus are always in the same status. This makes the element workflow simpler when working with multiple element variants since the user receives only one job for the element instead of one per variant.
Available from 3.12.3. onwards

>> Variant compression in tree view. When working in LAGO Explorer the treeview within a catalog will also show the relevant information in compressed mode when the 'Show data in compressed mode' option under 'Preferences - Lists' is active.
Available from 3.12.3. onwards

>> Automatic component creation user defined fields are now evaluated. Using the Automatic component creation via rules now allows the evaluation of user defined field content providing a specific Media type is selected with the rule definition.
Available from 3.12.3. onwards

>> Create new object via double click. When working within the property, article, element or document list it is now possible to access the New dialog simply be clicking on an empty row within the list.
Available from 3.12.3. onwards

>> Load all Hi-Res images when image type has option "use original in layout" set. Via the use of a central configuration option it is possible to force the XTension or Plugin to load all Hi-Resolution images from LFS, for image types with the option "Use original image in layout" set, prior to opening the document. Without this option the images will only be downloaded from LFS if they are to be updated within the document.
Available from 3.12.3. onwards

>> LagoExplorer - Reset all columns in Column Configurator. It is now possible to reset the changes to the column configuration within LAGO Explorer with the single click of the Reset button in the Column configuration dialog. This makes all columns visible, sets the background color to white and left aligns the content of all columns.
Available from 3.12.3. onwards
